LCW can grow in electric transport with its own charging plaza

Logistics service provider LCW Groningen recently acquired its own charging station for its electric trucks. While the company currently operates with three fully electric trucks, a tenfold increase in that number should eventually be possible thanks in part to the charging facility.
LCW Groningen emerged more than 20 years ago from the merger of three transport companies. Through growth and acquisitions, it is now a company with around 150 trucks in its fleet. Only a few years ago, the first plug-in hybrid truck was purchased and LCW now has three fully electric trucks in operation. With its own charging station at Westpoort business park on the A7 motorway, the company can therefore take big steps towards sustainability. With the current charging facilities, thirty electric trucks could eventually be operational.
Generate during the day, charge in the evening
According to LCW Groningen, the charging plaza has been designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind. “During the day, green power is generated through the solar panels and stored in a sustainable battery.” That energy is then used in the evening to charge the electric trucks. The charging solution is “compact, safe and flexible” and can charge five trucks at a time. There is also a powerful 500-kW fast charger for interim charging of the vehicles.
Director Jacob Vonck is obviously delighted with the new developments. “With this charging plaza, we are making our own transport more sustainable. At the same time, we help our customers reduce their CO2 footprint and comply with the new European directive which requires clear mapping of environmental impact. We are fully prepared for the future and will soon be able to deliver in all emission-free zones of Dutch city centres.”
