Drok filling station in Den Helder will stay open until 2029 and become Tamoil

The Drok petrol station in Den Helder, North Holland, may continue to exist for the time being. The municipal executive decided to permanently extend the ground lease for three years, until 1 December 2029. The manned filling station De Vrije Pomp will also continue under the name Tamoil. This reports the Noordhollands Dagblad.
The petrol station on Ruyghweg was at odds with the municipality over the ground lease, which was scheduled to expire on 1 December 2026. Earlier, the owner of the petrol station, the Drok family, was told that an extension was possible, but it later emerged that housing is planned on the site.
The Drok family then asked for a postponement in order to continue operating the petrol station for a few more years. That request has now been granted, writes the Noordhollands Dagblad. The filling station will remain in operation until the end of 2029 and has been leased to Tamoil Netherlands from now until the end of its term.
Apart from the extension, other agreements have also been made. For instance, the Drok family will transfer two plots of land to the municipality and the filling station must be handed over in agreed condition by the end of 2029. The municipality will then take care of the soil remediation.
By the end of 2029, however, the petrol station on Ruyghweg will definitely come to an end to make way for the construction of new housing.
