Vattenfall places fast charging points with battery storage in Enschede
Energy company Vattenfall will install fast charging points equipped with integrated batteries in the municipality of Enschede. These batteries are charged outside peak hours and provide energy back during busy times. According to Vattenfall, this is a European first.
The new charging stations will appear at five locations in Enschede and are expected to be installed by the end of 2026. Battery storage reduces the load on the grid during local peak moments. At the same time, electric cars can continue to charge at full power during busy hours without additional grid load.
The charging stations can supply up to 200 kW, of which 150 kW comes from the battery. As a result, only 50 kW is needed from the regular grid. The batteries charge when power demand is low. They do not feed power back to the grid.
Vattenfall calls the arrival of these charging stations “an important step towards a future-proof charging network, which will make it possible to quickly charge cars in cities despite congestion on the grid.“
