TotalEnergies and Utrecht municipality expand dynamic charging tariffs
After a pilot with dynamic charging tariffs, TotalEnergies and the municipality of Utrecht are now expanding this charging solution. Indeed, the pilot shows that e-drivers adjust their charging behaviour when dynamic charging tariffs are applied.
The pilot, which started at the beginning of February this year, shows that e-drivers adjust their charging behaviour when the price varies during the day. Users of dynamic tariffs charged more often in the cheaper hours and less during peak hours. Although the pilot was conducted with a limited group, Total Energies says the results indicate that dynamic tariffs can help reduce grid congestion and support more sustainable electric driving.

“The cooperation with TotalEnergies shows how we can further promote sustainable mobility,” said Eva Oosters, alderman for the environment and zero-emissions transport at the municipality of Utrecht. “By rolling out dynamic charging tariffs, we are not only making electric driving more sustainable, but also cheaper.”
Complement to smart charging
According to TotalEnergies, dynamic charging tariffs are an addition to the existing smart charging system, which already partially shifts charging sessions to more sustainable and cheaper times. “With the introduction of dynamic tariffs, e-drivers can now also benefit from lower costs during advantageous hours. In this way, we hope to encourage users to adjust their behaviour.”
