New step for Circle K: company opens first 1000 kW charging station in Sweden

Canadian-American retail company Circle K has taken another step in offering fast charging options for heavy transport. In Sweden this week, it opened on the E4 motorway near Värnamo, its first 1 megawatt (1000 kW) charging station. The company says it wants to further expand the charging network so that heavy transport can also make the switch to electric driving.
Circle K has been preparing for years for MCS, the megawatt charging system for heavy electric vehicles. The company says it wants to make electric fast charging possible not only for regular cars and trucks, but also for heavy transport. this requires charging stations with large capacities. To this end, Circle K opened this week in Värnamo on the E4 motorway in Sweden, the major thoroughfare between Denmark and capital Stockholm, a first charging station with a capacity of 1 megawatt (1,000 kW). Equipped with an Alpitronic HYC1000 charger, the charging station is part of the company’s strategy to electrify heavy transport and expand its charging network.
Exceptional year
“We have had an exceptional year,” said Lennart Olsson of Circle K at the official opening. “Among other things, we opened our first dedicated charging station, Circle K Järna, which was voted the third best charging station in the world. Next, we are now the first to launch the most powerful charger on the market. We have been preparing for the MCS megawatt charging system for years, so it is incredibly exciting to finally cut the ribbon.”
Strategic
In 2022, Circle K opened the first heavy vehicle charger in Scandinavia at Vädermotet in Gothenburg, and since then the network has expanded rapidly. Currently, the formula offers heavy vehicle charging solutions from Malmö in southern Sweden to Kiruna in the north. The charging points are strategically located along the most heavily used routes for heavy traffic and thus should support the electrification of the transport sector. Olsson: “That we are the operator that has taken the most comprehensive approach for the transition – for both heavy and light traffic – is something we are immensely proud of and we are happy to share our insights.”
