At IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover (Germany), Volvo Penta is presenting a mobile battery solution that enables transport companies to charge electric vehicles in locations where grid capacity is insufficient.

Grid congestion is posing an ever-greater challenge to the electrification of transport. Sufficient power for fast charging is not available everywhere, particularly for heavy-duty electric vehicles. According to Volvo Penta, mobile battery energy storage (BESS) can circumvent this problem, accelerate the roll-out of temporary or permanent charging infrastructure, and, in certain situations, minimise lengthy planning permission processes and civil engineering works.

“Reliable energy infrastructure is crucial for the transition to zero-emission transport,” says Tommi Wulff, Sales and Business Development Manager at Volvo Penta. “Battery energy storage can help enable fast charging in locations where grid capacity is limited or permanent infrastructure is not yet available.”
