Q8 and Storm open Wallonia’s first full-service fast-charging station with a shop and restaurants

Q8 and Storm have opened Wallonia’s first full-service Q8 electric fast-charging station on the N4 in Ciney, Belgium. The service site, which features only fast chargers and therefore does not offer petrol, also houses branches of Delhaize Shop&Go, Panos, Starbucks and McDonald’s.
Electric vehicle owners can use the eight fast chargers at Q8 electric Ciney, each with a capacity of up to 400 kW. Customers looking for a bite to eat or a drink will find a range of convenience outlets offering food and drink to enjoy on the spot or to take away for the journey. Toilet facilities provided by 2theloo are also part of the Q8 electric service station on the N4, just south-east of Namur.
“The combination of fast charging, comfort and convenience is the future. We’re strongly committed to this,” said Sven Dochez, commercial director at Q8, during the official opening. The new station in Ciney is the very first Q8 electric ‘full-service’ fast-charging station with a shop and several restaurants in Wallonia. Dochez: “With Q8 electric, we’re bringing the familiar convenience of our petrol stations to electric charging. Whilst their car is charging, customers can do their shopping at Delhaize Shop&Go, enjoy a coffee from Starbucks or have a bite to eat at Panos or McDonald’s in the spacious seating area or on the large outdoor terrace.”
In Ciney, Q8 is also trialling a new concept featuring toilet facilities in partnership with 2theloo. “This means a charging stop is more than just waiting for the battery to fill up,” says Dochez. “We’re turning it into a comfortable and pleasant break on the road for everyone. In total, our entire network now comprises 136 shops.”
More convenience locations
If Q8 and Storm have their way, more convenience locations with fast-charging facilities will be introduced across Belgium in the coming years. “We are building a strong international charging network that is ready for the future,” says Dochez. “Over the next five years, we will be rolling out more than five hundred Q8 electric fast-charging locations across the Benelux.”
In September, Q8 and Storm will open a second full-service Q8 electric fast-charging station on the E34 motorway near Stekene, a few kilometres south of the Zeeuws-Vlaanderen border with the Netherlands.
With over 480 petrol stations and, together with Delhaize and Panos, more than 135 Shop&Go convenience stores, Q8 is one of the largest players in the Belgian market for fuels and energy.
