Fieten Olie in Vriezenveen begins construction of the Twente Energy Hub: ‘Plans are now a reality’

Fieten Olie has begun work on the construction of the Twente Energy Hub in Vriezenveen. A refuelling and charging station with a hydrogen hub is being built on Rusluieweg in the town in Overijssel, which will soon be able to serve both passenger cars and lorries.
“It’s great to see the plans now becoming a reality,” says Fieten Olie. “Over the coming period, we’ll see a completely new site take shape step by step in Vriezenveen.” In close collaboration with Hydronex, H2Hub Twente and the Municipality of Twenterand, Fieten Olie is developing Energiehub Twente in this town in Overijssel. This will eventually provide a refuelling and charging station where fossil fuels and more sustainable fuels, such as HVO100, can be refuelled, and where vehicles can also be charged using multiple fast chargers. Both passenger cars and lorries will soon be able to use Energiehub Twente.
Hydrogen hub
A hydrogen hub is to be built adjacent to the refuelling station. The 5-megawatt electrolyser is scheduled for completion in 2028. The facility will utilise renewable energy from the immediate vicinity, sourced from a floating solar farm. The green hydrogen produced will be used partly to supply the filling station and partly to be supplied to the transport sector in the region.
Last July, Fieten Olie, Hydronex, H2Hub Twente and the local council jointly unveiled the construction hoarding to mark the official launch of the project.
To realise the hydrogen refuelling station, the parties received a grant of over six million euros from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, via the Hydrogen in Mobility Grant Scheme.
Fieten Olie currently operates a network of 110 filling stations in the Netherlands, the vast majority of which are unmanned. The company, based in Hollandscheveld in Drenthe, has indicated its intention to expand to 150 locations.
