Leap24 is to build a fast-charging station for electric lorries and commercial vehicles in Assen

Hof van Parijs, located on the A28 motorway in Assen, is to get a public fast-charging station for electric lorries, vans and smaller commercial vehicles. The Dutch company Leap24 and the municipality of Assen have signed an agreement to this effect.
Leap24 will install a public fast-charging station at Hof van Parijs, featuring two drive-through charging bays for electric lorries. In addition, there will be six charging points for other electric commercial vehicles. These charging bays will have spacious parking spaces, so that vans and larger commercial vehicles can also charge comfortably. The charging station will form part of what the organisers call “a new green and welcoming location on the A28”. Sustainability, tranquillity and accessibility are set to come together here. Consumers will soon be able to stop by for a bite to eat or a drink whilst their vehicle is charging. Thanks to the green landscaping, footpaths and water features, the organisers say this will create “a pleasant environment where visitors can recharge not only their vehicles but also themselves before continuing their journey.”
A pleasant wait
According to Pelle Schlichting, founder of Leap24, Hof van Parijs demonstrates how charging is increasingly becoming part of the overall travel experience. “Electric driving requires places where you can not only charge effectively, but also wait comfortably. Hof van Parijs brings these two elements together. With space for e-trucks, vans and smaller commercial vehicles in a green setting, it creates a location where travellers can take a comfortable break from their journey. We are proud to be able to contribute to this, together with the municipality of Assen.”
Sustainability ambitions
The development is in line with the wider sustainability ambitions of the municipality of Assen. Since 1 January 2025, the capital of Drenthe has had a zero-emission zone in its city centre and is one of the first fourteen municipalities in the Netherlands to have introduced this. Assen has also set out its ambition in the Asser Ambitie Agenda to become the greenest city in the Netherlands.
“With Hof van Parijs, we are building a future-proof business park,” says Councillor Martin Rasker. “Work, socialising and sustainable mobility come together in an attractive environment. The Leap24 charging station fits in seamlessly with this and makes charging electric commercial vehicles easy.”
