Fastned opens first shop at fast-charging station in the Netherlands: ‘Pleasant charging experience’

Fastned, the fast-charging company founded in the Netherlands, officially opened its first shop in the Netherlands on Tuesday. The shop is located at Velder service area, along the A2 motorway near Liempde in Brabant. It is the first location in the Netherlands where Fastned offers sanitary facilities, coffee and food in addition to fast charging.
According to the fast-charging company, the location offers a fully-fledged charging experience for electric drivers that goes beyond just charging the car itself. With the opening of the shop at Velder stop, Fastned offers electric drivers for the first time in the Netherlands a stop along the motorway where you can recharge and relax. While the car charges, drivers and passengers can use sanitary facilities and get something to eat and drink. The staffed shop features a range of food and drink items. Outside opening hours, the 24/7 lounge is accessible, where visitors can use vending machines, a coffee machine and sanitary facilities.
Sustainable building
The shop at Velder was designed with sustainability in mind. The building is made of sustainable building materials, including wood, and is energy-efficient thanks to good insulation, smart lighting and optimal use of daylight. The building consists of four modular parts that are fully factory-prepared. Placing it on site in one day minimised construction emissions, according to Fastned. The shop offers sanitary facilities in partnership with 100RestRooms, coffee from Bocca and a food & beverage range with healthy choices provided by Vermaat.

Pleasant stop
“Electric driving is growing at a rapid pace in the Netherlands,” says Martijn Repko, Fastned’s Netherlands director. “With that, the need for a charging experience that is safe, comfortable and pleasant is also growing, and that goes beyond just charging the car itself. Electric drivers should be able to make a pleasant stop along the motorway with a cup of coffee, a sandwich and access to a toilet in a place that actually invites them to catch their breath. With this shop in Velder, we show what that can look like. In addition, by using reusable materials and a modular building concept, we underline our commitment to working towards a sustainable future.”
Future
The shop at Velder is the first of its kind in the Netherlands and, according to Fastned, serves as an example for future locations in places where a shop substantially improves the charging experience. The fast-charging company has already gained experience with retail at fast-charging stations in Belgium and Germany. In April 2024, Fastned opened its very first shop at the fast-charging station on the E19 between Antwerp and Breda, near Brecht.
