Q8 opens Belgium’s first ‘digital foodmarket’ at petrol station in Liege: ‘Filling in evening meal time’

Q8 has opened a ‘digital foodmarket’ at its Liege-Grétry petrol station, just south of Maastricht, the first in Belgium. At an outlet in the shop, consumers can order freshly prepared products on the spot or online. With the food concept, Q8 hopes to get more out of the ‘evening dining moment’.
“We want to focus much more on comfort and experience around food and shopping,” explains Sarah Pillen, shop & dealer performance manager at Q8. At the delivery kiosk now completed at Q8 Liege-Grétry, visitors can get tacos, chicken products and meals, among other things. Sandwiches from Panos and products from the Delhaize Shop & Go range can also be ordered. With the digital foodmarket, Q8 says it is taking “another step” in the company’s evolution into a “sustainable mobility player” with a broad shop and food service offering. The petrol stations that will offer the additional consumption and dining options will be adapted accordingly.
Food central
The Q8 petrol station in Liège-Grétry has been given a “smart kitchen” of 4.5 m2. Pillen: “In it, we prepare premium versions of popular dishes with different toppings. We can keep this kitchen compact thanks to simple, efficient recipes. The dishes are prepared on site with daily fresh ingredients.”
The kitchen is also connected to a digital platform on which customers can order the dishes, both via a digital ordering kiosk in the station itself and online via ordering platforms such as Just Eat, Uber Eats or Deliveroo. Products from the Delhaize Shop & Go and a selection from the Panos range can also be ordered via the platform. “Everything is delivered by bicycle courier at home, to the office or on the road,” Pillen said.
Dinner
Q8 expects the extensive offer to attract visitors to the petrol station at several times of the day. “Right now, mornings and afternoons are especially busy, thanks to our strong cooperation with Delhaize and Panos,” said Pillen. “But we also want to expand the evening more strongly. With this additional offer of fresh meals and through digital platforms, we believe this is possible.”
Q8 has a network of over 450 Q8 and Q8 easy filling stations in Belgium. There are no Q8 filling stations in the Netherlands, but it was announced at the end of March that the company will realise charging stations in our country under the name Q8 electric. The current Tango electric will be gradually replaced by Q8 electric in the process.
