Greenpoint records nearly 40,000 hydrogen refuelling operations since launch in 2021

Since the opening in June 2021 of the first Greenpoint hydrogen refuelling station in the Netherlands, Van Kessel Group has recorded a total of nearly 40,000 hydrogen refuelling operations at the company’s three hydrogen-providing locations. Not only passenger cars refuelled there emission-free, but “all types of vehicles”.
In June, it will be five years since Van Kessel officially opened the first Greenpoint hydrogen filling station on Morsebaan in Nieuwegein. This was followed by two more: in October 2023 on the Laan der Verenigde Naties in Dordrecht and in December of that year followed by a branch on the Tonisseweg in Oude-Tonge in Zuid-Holland. With the realisation of so-called ‘clean energy hubs’, locations that offer an assortment of other environmentally friendly fuels in addition to hydrogen, the Milheeze-based company says it is working towards emission-free mobility.
Since its launch in 2021, nearly 40,000 hydrogen refuelling operations have now taken place at Greenpoint. The company saw a wide range of vehicles visit the refuelling sites. Not only passenger cars and vans, but also dual-fuel tractors, excavators and 50-tonne trucks filled up with hydrogen there. “That variety gives a good picture of how hydrogen is used in a variety of ways,” Van Kessel said.
Development
For Greenpoint, this is confirmation to continue development. For instance, the company produces its own certified green hydrogen in Nieuwegein and this will also happen soon in Oude-Tonge. In addition, Van Kessel has permits to add hydrogen to the filling station at several existing Greenpoint locations.
Van Kessel has been active for more than 104 years in the sale and distribution of (sustainable) fuels, lubricants and energy to companies, filling stations and wholesale customers. The company operates more than 40 filling stations in the Netherlands, has 26 fuel trucks on the road and, under the name Greenpoint, operates sustainable energy hubs with fossil-free fuels, charging stations for electric vehicles and hydrogen filling stations.
