Circle K opens in TotalEnergies gas station The Lokkant: ‘Underlines where we are moving’

The shop at TotalEnergies petrol station De Lokkant on the A73 motorway in Haps, Brabant, has received a large-scale makeover. The Bonjour has given way to a shop according to the Circle K formula. According to the initiators, De Lokkant now offers “a sharp and clear shop offer”.
“Circle K The Lokkant not only offers a powerful food and coffee experience. Visitors will also find a sharp and clear shop offer,” Frits Morrema of Circle K Netherlands explains the renovation. “Everything in this branch is designed to make it as easy and attractive as possible for our customers. Circle K The Lokkant underlines where we are moving towards: from petrol station to true retailer.” The formula with bakery focuses on familiar shopping products on the go, as well as freshly prepared sandwiches, combo deals and special offers. The so-called ‘signature products’ are coffee and hot dogs.
With the acquisition in January 2024 by Canada’s Alimentation Couche-Tard/Circle K of TotalEnergies’ retail and card activities in the Netherlands, large numbers of shops at petrol stations in our country and all over Western Europe will be converted to Circle K. In Western Europe, a total of some two thousand petrol stations are to get manned Circle K shops. In the Netherlands, the Lokkant is one of the locations whose former Bonjour shop of TotalEnergies was replaced by Circle K this week.
7.4 million
Ever since the service station on the A73 opened in 1986, exactly 40 years ago this year, it has had a filling station according to the Total formula. In 2021, the company name changed globally to TotalEnergies, which was also implemented on the canopy of De Lokkant. During the rent rights auction held by the State Property Agency in September 2022, TotalEnergies was keen to be able to operate the fuelling site for another 15 years. The French energy giant had a bid of over €7.4 million left to make this happen.
A total of around 250 petrol stations in the Netherlands are to get the shop formula. This number could grow even larger, as the modular shop formula is also available for dealer locations, so-called ‘dodos’.
Circle K is part of Alimentation Couche-Tard (ACT), a global leader in convenience stores and mobility. Headquartered in Laval, Canada, ACT operates in 29 countries and territories, with nearly 17,300 shops, about 13,200 of which also offer road fuel.
