Peut petrol stations owned by Bianca and Wieger Bakker taken over by Dorenbos family: ‘Quite a shock’

The Peut petrol stations in Coevorden and Hardenberg and the branch of Europa Garage Coevorden that were run by Bianca and Wieger Bakker for many years will continue from 1 July 2026 under the leadership of the Dorenbos family, known for car and taxi company Dorenbos, among others. No succession is the reason for quitting the petrol stations, according to the entrepreneurs.
“Two years ago we started a process that we thought would take years,” Bianca and Wieger Bakker explain the move to hand over the petrol stations and garage business to Dorenbos. “After all, we are far from stopping; our heart is still with this company. Nevertheless, since there is no direct succession within the family, we looked for a party who could continue our businesses with the same love and ambition. We found that click faster than expected with the Dorenbos family.”
Melancholy
Bianca and Wieger Bakker say they are handing over the business “with a mix of healthy tension, a bit of melancholy, but above all immense pride”. According to the entrepreneurs, letting go “after years of intensive work and construction is quite something to swallow.” Nevertheless, they say they are confident that “our life’s work, our fine employees and loyal customers are in good hands with the Dorenbos family.”
Q8 and Shell to Peut
The unmanned petrol station on J.C. Kellerlaan in Hardenberg (OV) displayed the colours of Q8 until spring 2015. It was then converted by Wieger Bakker as one of the first in the Netherlands to the Peut formula. The entrepreneur stated he wanted “more space” to distinguish himself locally and he felt he could not do that under the Q8 flag. More than four years later, in September 2019, Bakker also converted the manned filling station on Europaweg in Coevorden, until then a Shell, to the Peut formula.
The two Peut filling stations and garage company Europa Garage Coevorden will officially be taken over by the Dorenbos family from 1 July 2026.
Started in 2014
Peut started in November 2014 as a filling station formula for independent pump owners. As a cooperative De Vrije Pomp, Peut entrepreneurs buy fuel jointly. Unlike large oil companies, Peut allows room for the appearance and decisions of the local entrepreneur. The formula claims to offer excellent purchasing conditions, allowing member pump owners to buy fuel, oil and windscreen washer fluid cheaper.
The formula uses the Tank & Schenk savings system. For every litre refuelled, customers can donate one eurocent to a local charity of their choice. At the end of April 2026, it was announced that the loyalty programme has donated a total of one million euros to charities since its launch in 2014.
There are currently 14 Peut filling stations in the Netherlands.
