Shell sees global number of its own charging stations rise sharply by 2025, number of filling stations down slightly

Shell has grown the number of electric vehicle charging points owned or under its own Shell brand by more than 20 per cent to nearly 88,000 worldwide by 2025. In contrast, the number of Shell refuelling sites owned by the company worldwide declined.
This is according to figures in Shell’s latest annual report for 2025. Whereas the energy giant had nearly 73,000 owned or Shell-branded electric vehicle charging points worldwide in 2024, the number grew by over 20 per cent to nearly 88,000 charging points in 2025. Shell Mobility is one of the world’s largest mobility providers by number of locations, with more than 40,000 Shell locations, including gas stations, in more than 80 markets by the end of 2025.
The number of Shell locations, either wholly owned or licensed, decreased globally from 44,109 in 2024 to 42,724 last year; a decrease of more than 3 per cent.
According to the annual report, the closure or sale of the nearly 1,400 tank sites is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its financial performance and increase normalised free cash flow per share by more than 10 per cent annually through 2030.
Among the sites divested in 2025 were 200 sites in Indonesia and 217 in Mexico. The company did not disclose the locations of the remaining closed or sold sites, but did confirm that they were not in the United States. In that country, Shell operates about 12,000 of its own service stations, of which nearly 200 are in Texas.
