Fuel crisis in Belgium: maximum price leads to mega losses

Belgian fuel traders are at a loss. Indeed, the method of calculating the legal maximum price forces them to sell diesel and petrol at a loss. “This is pure bread robbing,” they say.
“The situation is untenable,” several petrol station operators report to our Belgian sister site. “Due to rising fuel prices, and the applicable maximum prices for petrol and diesel, we have to sell our fuel at a loss,” says Angelo Bruno of the Limburg-based chain Group Bruno. “And that is not even allowed by law.” And he adds that he is considering the closure of some petrol stations as long as the situation persists.
For Belgian sector federation Brafco, the cry for help is the signal to once again call for the abolition of Belgium’s system of maximum fuel prices.
