First public charging station for electric trucks opened in Purmerend region

Finish Profiles, developer of steel structures, has opened the region’s first public charging station for electric trucks in Purmerend. At the Component in the North Holland town, buses and passenger cars can charge alongside e-trucks.
The company has an extensive electric fleet: employees drive electric, forklifts are electric and two electric trucks are in operation. Now a 24/7 publicly accessible charging plaza has been realised with charging stations for electric trucks, vans and cars. Power for the charging posts is provided by solar panels and a 250-kW battery. According to the initiators, a fair electricity price has been deliberately chosen at the site to make charging attractive. The investment amounts to around 800,000 euros, about a quarter of which was supported through the SPULA grant – aimed at charging infrastructure for freight traffic.
Completely emission-free
“As an entrepreneur, I have always been concerned with sustainability and CO2 reduction,” explains Finish Profiles director Chris van der Vossen. “For example, we work with lightweight steel. This is just as strong as regular steel, but much less harmful to the environment and more sustainable. Ultimately, my ambition is to be completely emission-free before 2030. The new charging location will play an important role in this turnaround. The battery can even trade on the energy market thanks to smart software, but I see that as a bonus. For me, the real gain is in peak smoothing, self-use and sustainability.”
The company expects to recoup the investment within three to four years.
