Construction started in Delfzijl of HyPlanet hydrogen trailer fill station: ‘World has changed’

The ground was broken in Delfzijl, Groningen, on Wednesday for the construction of a hydrogen trailer fill station. The project is an initiative of Green Planet, HyPlanet and Green Edge and should contribute to building “a new hydrogen economy” in the northern Netherlands.
According to co-initiator Edward Doorten of Green Planet in Pesse, green hydrogen from local producers such as Nobian will soon be compressed and purified at the site. “We then fill bulk trailers with this green hydrogen. These bulk trailers travel by road to take the hydrogen to locations where large quantities of hydrogen are required. Ready to use, scalable and future-proof,” said Doorten, who says he wants to “build a hydrogen economy” together.
“This hydrogen economy will make our energy supply much less dependent on Russia, the US and the Middle East. Hydrogen requires relatively few rare earths. This makes us much less dependent on China. Because one thing has become certain: the world has changed. As the EU, we must become independent like lightning,” Doorten says.
Zero emission
Green hydrogen is zero emission and therefore contributes to getting the Netherlands off the nitrogen lock, according to the initiators. “In addition, green hydrogen means no further global warming and can save us from forest fires and floods. In short: hydrogen helps,” the companies involved said.
Doorten says he is proud of the symbolic ‘shovel in the ground’. “It gives us positive energy to contribute as an enthusiastic team to help solve major societal challenges in turbulent times. At the same time, we are mainly looking ahead. Already within a year we want to compress and purify four thousand kilograms of green hydrogen per day at this location. So there is serious work to be done, so we are rolling up our sleeves and above all we are going to work very, very hard!”
