Shell awards Barista Cup 2025: ‘Creating better coffee experience on the go’

Shell has awarded the Barista Cup 2025. With the annual award, the British energy giant aims to ‘improve team spirit in petrol stations’. It also aims to offer motorists ‘a better coffee experience on the road’.
Every year, Shell holds a nationwide coffee competition in which coffee makers from Shell Café branches in the Netherlands create a new coffee speciality. This year, 54 baristas participated. The coffee is judged on creativity, workflow, presentation and coffee knowledge, among other things. The winning coffee of the 2025 competition edition was prepared by baristas at Shell Hazeldonk-West on the A16 motorway near Breda.
According to Sebastiaan van den Driessche, Head of Foodservice & Coffee Benelux & France at Shell, the competition is about much more than just coffee: “It brings colleagues together, strengthens the team spirit in our stations and increases job satisfaction. By learning together and challenging each other, we not only increase our knowledge and quality, but above all create a better coffee experience for our guests on the road.”
The winning coffee will be available at all 105 Shell Café locations in the Netherlands with a bakery during the course of this year.
