Fastned places ‘the fastest charger in the Netherlands’ on A6 motorway

Fastned has installed a megawatt charging station at stop ‘De Aalscholver’ on the A6 motorway between Lelystad and Almere, which the fast-charging company says is ‘the fastest charger in the Netherlands’. The charging station is a test with which Fastned wants to gain experience with infrastructure prepared for a next generation of electric vehicles that can charge even faster and with more power.
The charging station placed at De Aalscholver is almost 100 times more powerful than ordinary street chargers, according to Fastned. Several passenger cars could charge up to a thousand kilometres in 12 minutes with it. Faster chargers like this help motorists get to where you need to be in less time – and it all comes in a much sleeker design, Fastned said in a post on LinkedIn. The placement of the megawatt charging station is part of a test. Fastned wants to gain experience with infrastructure prepared for the next generation of electric vehicles, which will be able to charge structurally in ever shorter times and with ever heavier powers.
Two charging points
The megawatt charging station at the A6 is of the Alpitronic Hypercharger HYC 1000 type and features two charging points that are currently technically capable of delivering 600 kW each, but will soon be capable of delivering 1000 kW (1 megawatt). Although the charging column is designed for extremely high power per charge point, the available power remains dependent on the grid connection and on-site power management.
Pilot
Fastned explicitly speaks of a pilot. The megawatt charging column serves as a test to gain experience with installation, use and power management. Based on the experience gained, it will be determined whether and where the technology can be applied in the future.
