First a Shell, then Total, then Argos and now the gas station in Hasselt continues as Esso Express
The unmanned filling station at Buiten de Venepoort in Hasselt, Overijssel, has been displaying itself as the new Esso Express since this week. The filling station has been at the location on the N331 since 1967 and has carried a variety of formula names during those 58 years.
The filling station on the outskirts of Hasselt has a history of almost 60 years behind it. In the summer of 1967, the Zieleman family opened the filling station at the Buiten de Venepoort location with a manned shop in Shell colours. In 2010, Zieleman traded in Shell for Total, before renewing to the Argos formula in July 2020. In the process, the manned shop was closed.
Now, more than five years later, the Argos at the location is no more, but consumers can fill up there under an awning that has been given the look of Esso Express. The filling station offers Euro 95, Euro 98 and diesel. An on-site payment terminal allows for 24/7 refuelling. The Netherlands has around 400 filling stations in Esso’s colours.
