This is what Avia Weghorst’s newest fuelling and charging station at XL Businesspark Twente will look like
Avia Weghorst has started work on a fuelling and charging station at the entrance to the XL Businesspark Twente in Almelo. The Enschede-based company’s flagship will have a manned shop according to the Hush formula. One of the construction companies involved in the project showed a sneak preview of the ‘mobility hub’ on Thursday.
Avia Weghorst unveiled a construction sign at the site near the XL Businesspark in Almelo at the end of May and work is now in full swing. On Newton, a stone’s throw from the ‘Almelo-Zuid’ slip road on the A35 motorway, a ‘mobility hub’ will be built, consisting of an Avia filling station with traditional and more sustainable fuels and a fast-charging station for both cars and trucks. There will also be a staffed shop with seating according to the Hush formula developed in-house by Avia Weghorst. According to Avia Weghorst, the new location will be the company’s flagship. The mobility hub should meet a regional need for facilities for both daily travellers and business traffic travelling along the A35 and visitors to the XL Businesspark Twente.
Long route
The realisation of the project in Almelo is the result of a long trajectory. The licence for the original petrol station was initially awarded to EG Group. After talks at the end of 2024 between EG Group and Avia Weghorst, the project with licence was transferred to the latter party. This brought an end to years of legal battle.
If everything goes according to plan, Avia Weghorst’s new fuelling and charging station will open its doors in early 2026.
