Shell Maasboulevard Rotterdam revamped to ‘greenest petrol station in the Netherlands’
Shell’s service station on Rotterdam’s Maasboulevard has become the first service station in the Netherlands to commission a number of new sustainable solutions. For example, it is the first to use a natural refrigerant for the refrigeration units. In addition, at the filling station the heat extracted from the products in the refrigerated display cases is reused to heat the shop.
This reports Daikin Netherlands via a message on LinkedIn. The installation which uses a natural refrigerant for the refrigeration units was commissioned at Shell Maasboulevard on 17 October. Previously, chemical refrigerants were used. However, these are harmful to the environment. As a result of European legislation, these agents are therefore banned from 2027. By switching to the use of natural refrigerants, Shell wants to anticipate the measures.
In addition, an energy-efficient refrigeration and climate control installation has been commissioned at Shell Maasboulevard: the Daikin Conveni-Pack. In the shop, this connected the food and beverage coolers, as well as the refrigeration and freezer cells in the warehouse and the climate control system to the new sustainable installation.
Heat recovery
The use of heat recovery makes the Rotterdam filling station extra special, according to Daikin Netherlands. At Shell Maasboulevard, the heat that is normally lost to the outside air via the cooling installation is reused to heat the filling station. This makes traditional gas heating unnecessary. Although such sustainable choices require a higher initial investment, according to Daikin Netherlands, they ensure lower energy consumption and significant environmental gains.
The manned Shell petrol station at Maasboulevard in Rotterdam offers regular and more sustainable fuels at the pump. For charging electric vehicles, there are several Shell Recharge fast chargers.
