Authority Consumer & Market gives green light for acquisition of BP by Catom Group
The Authority Consumer & Market (ACM) has approved the acquisition of bp Retail Netherlands GmbH and certain assets of B2Mobility GmbH by Catom BidCo BV, part of the Catom Group. The decision was taken on 10 October.
In its assessment, the ACM mapped several local catchment areas based on driving distance to the service stations involved in the transaction. This investigation showed that enough competitive pressure remains present at the local level, partly due to the presence of other suppliers in the immediate vicinity.
This decision allows Catom, the company behind the OK service stations, to further prepare the integration of BP’s business in the Netherlands. On 9 July 2025, BP reached an agreement with Catom on the sale of its mobility and convenience business in the Netherlands. The transaction includes around 300 petrol stations that BP owns or operates under the BP brand in the Netherlands. These will be gradually re-coloured to the look and feel of OK from the end of 2025.
BP Retail NL comprises the BP service stations in the Netherlands, including the EV charging infrastructure, the workforce, the FreeBees loyalty programme and the Dutch fleet customer base. The acquisition also includes supply and branding contracts with independent petrol stations. What will happen to the dozens of Albert Heijn to go branches in BP petrol stations in the Netherlands is not yet known.
