Is BP disappearing from the Netherlands? A new BP filling station has just opened in Ter Apelkanaal

A filling station in the Groningen town of Ter Apelkanaal has opened in BP colours. The filling station is a collaboration between BP, Vredeveld Group and Slump On and consists of a BP Express for private customers and a separate BP Truck filling station for trucks. The opening is notable because it was announced in early July that BP had sold all its Dutch fuelling and loading stations to industry peer Catom, owner of the OK brand.
The Netherlands’ newest BP opened on Ambachtsweg in Ter Apelkanaal, a stone’s throw from the N366 between the border with Germany and Veendam. The filling station consists of two, separately located filling stations, each with its own canopy in the BP look and feel. At the unmanned BP Express, passenger cars and vans can fill up with Euro 95, Euro 98 and diesel 24/7. The truck filling station offers diesel and HVO100, among other products. The fuelling location came about from a collaboration between BP, Vredeveld Group tankcleaning and Slump On, formerly Slump Oil of Heerenveen. Before the recent conversion, the filling stations showed the look of Calpam and International Diesel Service Q8.
Long-term project
The recent opening of the double filling station in BP colours is notable after it was announced in early July that BP had sold its Dutch filling and loading stations to Catom, owner of the OK brand. Commenting, Slump On said that such conversion operations are often very long-term projects. News of Catom’s acquisition of BP came in between, but that was no reason to abandon the conversion to BP. Slump On, BP’s official partner, says it will enter into talks with Catom before the end of the year on the implications of the announced acquisition. ‘What any of this means for our BP locations cannot be said at this stage,’ the company said.
Slump On is a fuel supplier and operates 23 manned and unmanned BP service stations, mainly in the provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe.
