More charging points for electric trucks thanks to subsidy

With the help of subsidy, 54 new charging plazas for electric trucks will be realised. In 2024, the government made funds available for this purpose through the SPULA (Public Charging Infrastructure Heavy Transport Subsidy Scheme). A total of 271 charging stations will be built at these new locations, accessible to all entrepreneurs with electric trucks.
All 271 charging posts are DC fast chargers, 251 of which fall in the heavy power group, reports the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). These can charge 350 kilowatts or more. The remaining 20 charging posts charge at 200 to 350 kilowatts. At 33 locations, a stationary battery will also come with the charging stations. This is also being done with support from SPULA. These batteries store energy for use when charging, thus relieving pressure on the electricity grid. It also allows trucks to charge faster.
According to the RFO, these charging stations help transport companies switch to electric cars. “This makes heavy transport cleaner for the environment. This switch is necessary to meet the climate targets that have been set.”
SPULA 2025
SPULA subsidy is again available for 2025. Since 13 May 2025, entrepreneurs can apply, which nine companies have done so far. Together, they are asking for EUR 2.3 million. A total of EUR 15 million is available. Until 19 December 2025, it is still possible for companies that want to build public charging plazas to apply.
