Hager goes beyond charging stations alone

There are numerous providers of EV charging stations, but as a specialist in the field of energy distribution facilities in homes and buildings, Hager also ensures integration and connection with the charging infrastructure, for example for smart charging and upcoming V2X capabilities. This also involves cooperation with leading car manufacturers.
In the automotive world, Hager, which has been supplying charging stations and related services in our country for 2 years now, is not yet a well-known player, but anyone who casts a glance in the meter cupboard at home or at work might just find a group box from the company there. Hager Group is a family-owned company with around 13,000 employees worldwide and celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, so there is no shortage of know-how. In the coming period, the company aims to gain a greater foothold in the field of EV charging infrastructure. “Combined with our energy distribution, charge management, energy management and energy storage solutions, we provide complete solutions for homes and businesses,” said Jordi Buter, market manager at the company. “So we offer more than just a charging solution. For households and SMEs, for example, we have a home energy management system (HEMS) available with which, among other things, up to 8 charging stations can be optimally controlled based on the solar energy available at the time or on dynamic energy tariffs.”
Control
In addition, Hager has an in-house charge management system that allows control of the charging process from an overhead energy management system, based on energy demand and any restrictions imposed due to congestion in the local power grid. Buter: “If companies want to switch off chargers within a certain time slot because power is needed elsewhere, they can do so.” This system also provides automatic configuration of connected charging stations and soon the ability to control third-party DC chargers with it will also be added.
Field tests
Through its subsidiary E3/DC, the company has now delivered more than 150,000 all-in-one home batteries, particularly in Germany and also the Netherlands. It is also working with leading car manufacturers such as Audi, Ford and Volkswagen on V2X solutions, which are currently undergoing practical tests. Buter: “The technology is already there, but cars also have to be ready for it.”
This year, the company is coming out with a new range of charging stations for both individuals and companies. “All our products meet the new NTA8043 requirements regarding smart charging,” Buter states. “Everything has been developed in-house and meets the highest standards, including, for example, with regard to their installation. We have also ensured that most of the parts used can be replaced, which improves both service life and durability.”
