Lukoil must shut down Russian refineries

The Russian oil giant Lukoil has been forced to shut down several of its refineries. Due to Ukrainian air strikes, it was no longer safe to carry out operations there.
As Ukraine increasingly brings the war onto Russian soil, Russian companies are also falling victim to the conflict. As recently as Wednesday, a fire broke out at the Lukoil oil refinery in Kstovo, Russia, following a Ukrainian air strike, after which the facility had to be shut down. The Reuters news agency received confirmation from three sources within the industry that crude oil processing there has been suspended.

The Kstovo refinery is Russia’s fourth-largest oil refinery and its second-largest petrol producer. Ukraine had previously struck other Lukoil targets in Russia, forcing the company to shut down operations at all its major refineries there, according to Reuters.
The Russian news agency Tass reports that Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has promised a “strong response”.
